A lot of people experience muscle tension because of the different things they go through each day. Some experience this because of the work they do. Physical activities like delivering the mail, mopping the floor, serving drinks or simply running after the boss can cause muscle tension. Others experience tension because of emotional stress. The pressure from the boss or your argument with your partner can cause a lot of stress. Still others experience it because of other physical disorders they have like musculoskeletal disorder and polio.
What is muscle tension? It is the condition when you feel some tightness in a certain muscle group. In reality, the tightness you feel is due to the semi-contraction of that muscle group for an extended period of time. For some, it is bearable but for others, it can be debilitating to the point that they cannot perform their other concerns anymore. There are people who have actually experienced muscle tension so severe that they had to remain in bed for some time.
So how do you relieve muscle tension? When you are at work, what you can do is to stop for a while and do some stretching exercises. You can also just shake your arms and your legs to loosen up. If those things will make you too conspicuous, you can just opt to do breathing exercises. Having enough oxygen can do wonders. Actually, if you do work in an air-conditioned office, you can choose to go out for a while to take in some fresh air. You can also opt to chew gum. The chewing process they say relaxes your muscles. However, do not chew fast because this could lead to gas pains that could then give you muscle tension in the abdominal region. Chewing slowly is what you should do not only with when chewing gum but also when you take your meals.
Coming to work well rested can help reduce your chances of experiencing muscle tension. The same is true if you do yoga and meditation regularly. Regular exercising can also do the same.
Getting body massages can also help relieve you of muscle pains. The combination of strokes plus the aromatherapy oils can relax your muscles. Even minutes in the steam room and the sauna can help. However, make sure that you do not overuse these rooms as too much loss of water can also bring muscle tension.
Muscle tension can be solved with these simple techniques. You just need to be conscious of what your body is feeling so you can immediately address it even before it becomes big.
